Kyiv, September 2 (Interfax-Ukraine) - Regions Party MP Oleksandr Lavrynovych has been elected the first deputy speaker of the parliament, BYT MP Mykola Tomenko has been elected deputy speaker of the Verkhovna Rada.
The election was supported on Tuesday by 340 votes of 445 MPs registered for the vote.
The Regions Party gave 175 votes, the Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko 153 votes, and the Our Ukraine-People's Self-Defense Bloc 12 votes.
Neither the Communist Party of Ukraine, nor the Bloc of Lytvyn voted in the election.
Lavrynovych and Tomenko immediately occupied their seats in the presidium near Verkhovna Rada Chairman Arseniy Yatseniuk.
The authors of the draft resolution on their appointment are Regions Party Leader Viktor Yanukovych and BYT Leader Ivan Kyrylenko.
